Andrew Swafford, 79, of Lynchburg died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at his home.

He was born Jan. 5, 1932 near Manchester, Ky., the son of the late Lloyd and Helen Jordan Swafford.

Mr. Swafford had retired as a heavy equipment operator and had served in the United State Air Force during the Korean War. He was a founding member of the Hillsboro Southern Baptist Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the Lynchburg Masonic Lodge #178 F.&A.M.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Stapleton Swafford, whom he married on Dec. 10, 1955 in Liberty, Ind.; one son, Ishmial Dewayne (Sandra Cozad) Swafford of Chillicothe; two grandchildren, Michael (Rachel) Miller of Hillsboro, Rebekka Chambers of Germany; two great-grandchildren, Hollie and Kelsie Miller of Hillsboro; one brother, Woodrow (Mae) Swafford of Middletown; one sister, Margie Turtletaub of Girdler, Ky.; and one special son, Roy Rowlands of Hillsboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Kay Aaron on Jan. 14, 2007; and five sisters, Nola Broughton, Cleo Sanders, Evelyn Broughton, Gracie Yontz and Jean Hogan.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at the Hillsboro Southern Baptist Church, 5846 S.R. 138, Hillsboro. The Rev. Don Piercy will officiate. Burial, with military services presented by the Highland County Honor Guard, will follow in the Hamer Township Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Masonic services will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Friday at the Turner & Son Funeral Home.
