OSHP investigates fatal crash in Brown County

Georgetown – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Georgetown Post is currently investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash involving a motorcycle. The crash occurred on state Route 32 near the intersection of U.S. 62, Eagle Township, Brown County, at approximately 9:28 a.m.

A preliminary investigation reveals that a blue 2004 Yamaha FZ6 motorcycle, operated by Charles T. Rump, age 28 of Seaman, Ohio was traveling westbound in the left lane on state Route 32. 

A gold 2012 Volvo XC60, operated by Michael W. Sheely, 74 of Winchester, was stopped in the left lane of state Route 32 at a red traffic signal. A white 2021 Chevrolet 6500HD truck, operated by Monty Fairly, 60 of Sardinia, was stopped in the right lane at the red traffic signal. Mr. Rump failed to maintain assured clear distance and struck the Volvo in the rear-end. Mr. Rump then struck the Chevrolet 6500HD before coming to rest.

Mr. Rump was pronounced deceased at the scene by EJFED EMS and Brown County Coroner’s Office. Mr. Rump was wearing a DOT helmet at the time of the crash.

A passenger in the Volvo, Sharon Sheely, was not injured in crash.

Units assisting on scene were EJFED EMS and Fire, Brown County Coroner’s Office, and Ohio Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Georgetown Post.
