Gist Settlement Legacy Secretary Paige Green to present program June 23 in Hillsboro

Gist Settlement Legacy Secretary Paige Green will present a program regarding the history of the Highland County Penn Township Gist Settlement on Tuesday, June 23 at the Highland County Historical Society Hodson House conference room at 7 p.m. 

The Hodson House is located next to the Highland House Museum at 149 East Main Street in Hillsboro.

The program will tell of the establishing of the Settlement in the early 1800s when Gist freed his 300 Virginia plantation slaves and relocated them to Highland and Brown counties. Today, the Highland County unit is the only one to fully survive and is currently overseen by a Gist Settlement Legacy Board of Trustees.
