Georgetown OSHP investigating Brown County crash

The Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle, serious injury crash. The crash occurred on Nov. 16 at approximately 7:39 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 68 and Oakland Road in Pike Township, Brown County.

The preliminary investigation showed a 2010 Ford 150, operated by William Freimuth, 22, Bethel, was traveling westbound on Oakland Road. A 2001 Mazda MPV, operated by Melissa Lakes, 43, Mount Orab, was traveling southbound on US Route 68. The vehicle operated by Freimuth entered the intersection and was struck by Lakes' vehicle. The Ford F-150 continued off the left side of the road striking a utility pole, and the Mazda MPV continued off the left side of the road into a ditch.  

Lakes sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, by UC Air Care. A passenger in her vehicle, Charity Effinger, 21, Mount Orab, was also transported by Georgetown EMS to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with serious injuries.

Freimuth was wearing a safety belt and was not injured in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Mt. Orab Police Department, Mt. Orab Fire Department and EMS, Georgetown EMS, and The Ohio Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
