WASHINGTON C.H. — Early miscues didn’t help McClain Tigers on the road against the Washington Blue Lions on Wednesday night, as they were shut out in five innings, losing their Frontier Athletic Conference game in five innings by an 11-0 score.

Only three of the 11 runs scored by Washington were earned, as Washington took advantage of hard hits to the outfield and five McClain errors en route to the FAC win.

Washington scored one run in the bottom of the first, added four runs in the second and then scored one run in the third inning for a 6-0 lead. In the fourth, the Blue Lions added two runs to their total, then three more runs in the bottom of the fifth for the run-rule win.

The Blue Lions totaled eight hits and committed no errors. McClain had three hits and the aforementioned five errors.

Kaden Penwell, Jayden Allison and Seth Weller each went 1-for-2 at the plate with Allison hitting a double. Haydon Hice was hit by a pitch.

Penwell was charged with the loss, pitching four innings. Penwell allowed eight runs, though all eight runs were unearned. He also gave up five hits and walked one batter, while collecting six strikeouts. Penwell finished with 74 pitches, 51 for strikes, all while facing 23 batters.

Cohen Six pitched 0.1 innings in relief, allowing three earned runs on three hits and no walks.

The loss moves McClain to 6-4-1 overall.
