The McClain girls varsity soccer team played maybe one of their most complete all-around games Tuesday night when they defeated Miami Trace, 6-1.

Senior Luca Matesic had another outstanding offensive performance, scoring four goals to pace her Lady Tigers in the victory. Addison Olaker also turned in a superb all-around game, and she got the Lady Tigers going by scoring their first two goals of the match.

“This was a great team effort tonight,” McClain head coach Blain Bergstrom said after the game. “Addy Olaker scored our first two goals, and Luca (Matesic) had the next four.”

McClain took a 1-0 lead at the 33:49 mark of the first period on a header by Olaker that was set up from a great assist by Bailey Parson.

The Lady Tigers took a 2-0 advantage on Olaker’s second goal, this one in close at the net in something that looked like a rugby scrum.

McClain ended the opening half of play with Matesic netting two impressive goals, the first one unassisted and the second from another great assist by Parson, giving the Lady Tigers a 4-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, McClain got two more goals from Matesic, and Miami Trace finally scored their only goal late in the match as the Lady Tigers cruised to the 6-1 Frontier Athletic Conference win.

“We got up early with the 4-0 lead at the half from some good execution by our girls,” Bergstrom said. “Our girls passed the ball well and really attacked the goal when given the opportunity.

“Defensively, I thought we played well, and Kenzie (Wise) almost had another shutout for us in the goal.”

The Lady Tigers were led offensively by Matesic and Olaker, who accounted for all six goals and key assists in the match were by Parson on a corner kick and Lindsey Hutchinson, Larah Henson and Paisley Pryor.

McClain’s next match Thursday, Sept. 28 is at home when they host FAC foe Chillicothe with a 5 p.m. start time.
