Sheriff: Local shopping does make a difference

To the editor,

I wish to convey some thoughts on the concept of shopping and doing business locally and to give a shout out to some local businesses who we purchase from, or contract services to, that have reached out to help us out in this difficult financial time that Highland County is facing.

I think most citizens realize the concept that when you do business here, the sales tax you pay stays here to help our local economy out, but it really goes farther than that. When you shop locally, it also helps that particular business with its bottom line, thus keeping that particular business's employees gainfully employed. Those employees
then in turn are able to have money in their household to spend, hopefully locally, which creates a positive economic cycle that will help us get off the top of the list in unemployment in Ohio.

Some of the local businesses that we regularly do business with not only give us the product or service we need at the best price, but they go the extra mile because they know the county's financial situation and want to do what they can to assist us in getting the best bang for the taxpayer buck. Businesses like SCO Supply (formerly SOS), MAC Printing, Hillsborough Printery, Cellular Solutions, Barrera Garage, Robbins Automotive, Chuck Wait Tire, Higgins Supply, Sherwood, Rick's Appliances, Miller's Auto Hospital, ServiceMaster by Burnett, Britain's Carpet Care, Hedges Supply, and others (as I am sure I have failed to mention some, please accept my apologies) who have given us discounts or reduced rates while still providing great service. You probably won't find that kind of dedication and personal service in Cincinnati, Dayton, or Columbus.

With the Christmas shopping season upon us, do your part in doing business locally when feasible. You will find a gold mine of great locally-owned businesses with caring owners and employees who really want and appreciate your business!

Wishing each of you and your family a safe and Happy Holiday Season,

Sheriff Ron Ward[[In-content Ad]]
