KAMP Dovetail continues tradition of service

To the editor:
Every year, it is unforgettable. I'm talking about KAMP Dovetail, a camp held once a year for kids with disabilities of all sorts; many are adults, too. And the volunteers – one-on-one – are fantastic. I tell everyone, "You should go out to RFL and see for yourself – it's hard to describe!"
I was a volunteer of the camp, for my granddaughter, Elizabeth Wait, for 12 years. She started at Day Camp (preschool) at 3 years old and five years later graduated to be with the older campers. Liz is now 24 and enjoys camp as much or more than she did as a little girl. I also had a son and grandkids volunteer, I'm proud to say.
I am no longer able to be her volunteer, but I go up each year to pick her up two evenings, to help her busy mom. Ironically, I became a volunteer with the camp in 1983, three years after its inception, with Bernie Solomon. Liz wasn't born yet! Who knew?
Linda Allen is to be congratulated, along with her staff and all volunteers. We should all help out with the fundraisers. We have all been touched by almost 30 glorious years of KAMP Dovetail!

Sincerely,
Barbara O'Connor
