Highland County needs jobs, not tax increases

To the editor:
I am writing to voice my opinion on behalf of myself and all other property owners in Highland County. it is tiresome to think that taxing us is the only way out of these financial situations with every city, state, and federal organization.
It is very unfortunate that the citizens in our county have lost their employment, but everyone else cannot pick up the slack for them. There have to be other solutions than the commissioners adding these mill levies on May 4 to help these organizations.
Many homes are being foreclosed, and if property taxes continue to rise, there will be even more homes left vacant. There are no jobs and no rate increases in employment for the working people. If this continues, people will just relocate. The main focus of Highland County should be trying to get employment here, not running out the existing property owners. We need jobs, not tax increases!
Sincerely,
Kathy Fawley
