Heaton announces campaign for re-election

I want to take this opportunity today to announce that I will be running for re-election for my seat on the Highland County Board of Commissioners.
My first term has been a rewarding experience. The honor of serving Highland County and the county's residents has been one of the highlights of my career in public service, starting with my service in the US Army infantry, my tour of duty in Vietnam, 31 years as a road trooper for the Ohio State Highway Patrol and over 25 years in youth academic and sports programs.
The past year has been a challenge for all of us. We have witnessed events and results of those events that our county's government and residents have never had to face before. Tough choices have been made by our board due to these events and unfortunately more tough choices are still ahead of us.
In my first term as commissioner, I have had the privilege to serve on numerous boards. My experience with the Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission, the DHL Task Force and making contacts while working with the Governor's office and the state legislative body have given me the knowledge to lead the county as we face the future.
Some positions we take on problems are not popular with everyone. Each decision receives careful study of all the facts, looking at the problem from every angle and discussing the information by the whole board of Commissioners, then voting for the solution that is best for the county.
My commitment to you as your county commissioner is to continue to give the county fair, balanced, and common sense leadership. I will continue to keep an open door to the office and be truthful and honest to you in all I do as I represent Highland County as your commissioner.
Highland County is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. With your vote on election day, Nov. 2010, I will continue to work hard for the people of Highland County.
