Good Samaritan thanked on anniversary of fatal crash

To the editor:
When Steve Ross Jr. left home to go to work at Cox Paving in Leesburg on the morning of April 1, 2009, he did not realize that it would turn out to be a morning that he would never forget. It was early and still dark on a section of S.R. 73 that’s very well known for early morning deer crossing.
As with most drivers that are familiar with this area, driving with a watchful eye is a must.
Unfortunately, Steve did not see any deer, but instead witnessed a fatal auto accident.
Steve did what some people could or would never do, he ran to the scene with a rapidly beating, helpful and hopeful heart.
He found me seated in the passenger side of the car; my husband, Jeff L. Lytle, had already lost his life. Steve, who had never met us, did not even hesitate.
He stayed by my side, hand in hand at what was the most lonely time in my entire life. Jeff and I would have celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary in just five days.
It was Jeff’s time to go to be with the Lord; he was ready.
Steve stayed with me, held my hand, prayed and listened to many loving stories about our children, grandchildren and our lives together.
I asked his name at the accident; and once I arrived at the hospital, I was asking my children if anyone knew who he was.
Steve Ross was his name. He was a blessing to me; if he hadn’t been there, for me, I don’t know what I would have done. I was the loneliest I have ever been, in all my life.
The good Lord blessed me with Steve Ross Jr. that morning and I thank the Lord for that each and every day.
A special and heartfelt thank you to all others who were there in this time of need.
Eternally grateful,
Wanda Lytle and family[[In-content Ad]]
