Tigers runners-up at 10th annual McClain Invitational

On the 10th anniversary of the McClain Invitational, it was the Miami Trace Panthers who took home the honors on the boys side, while the host McClain Tigers were the runners-up.
The Tigers totaled 106.5 points for second place, while the Panthers totaled 123 points, claiming the top spot. Zane Trace was third at 106, and in fourth was Hillsboro with 76.33 points. The rest of the boys standings included Piketon in fifth place with 70.5, followed by Adena (66.83), Westfall (56.33) and Circleville (52.50).
Though the Tigers didn't gain any first-place finishes, they used a combination of second- and third-place finishes to gain the points needed to be runners-up.
As for HHS, they tallied four first-place finishes in relay and individual events.
First-place finishes for the Indians included two top finishes by senior Jarrod Hart, who recently signed a Division I National Letter of Intent to race at the University of Cincinnati.
Hart won the 800-meter run, pacing the field with a time of 2:00.30, as he set the invitational record last year at 1:59.00. Hart also won the 400m dash with a time of 50.90.
Hart was also a part of the 3200m relay win of the Indians with the team of De-Andre Steward, Joe Beery, Conner Ernst and Hart. The foursome finished with a time of 9:01.90, nearly two seconds ahead of second-place Piketon.
Beery was also a winner as an individual as he raced his way to a first-place finish in the 3200m run with a time of 10:26.20, nearly 16 seconds better than second place.
With the Tigers, they may have not won an event, but they were able to gain valuable spots in events, sometimes with second- and third-place finishes in the same event.
McClain was second place seven times and collected four third-place finishes. Three times, the Tigers were second and third place in the same event.
Philip Thompson was fifth in the discus at 120-8, and in sixth was Chandler Wagner (120-0).

John Turner was second for the Tigers in the long jump with a distance of 20-1.50, followed by Jordan Goble in third with a jump of 19-8.50.
Ryan Faulconer placed second in the shot put for MHS, as the sophomore had a distance of 44-2.50. In third was Thompson at 44-2.
Again, the Tigers had a second-place finish, with Coleston Walters finishing runner-up in the high jump at 6-2 and Alex Hollar in sixth at 5-6.
MHS was sixth in the 3200m relay with a time of 9:40.80 with the team of Mikel Pritchard, Cody Hardesty, Storm Faulconer and Lane Norton.
The Tigers had a fourth-place finish in the 110m hurdles from Evan Mustard at 17.00. In the 100m dash, Seth William gave MHS second-place points as he finished with a time of 11.85. Turner was seventh at 12.00.
McClain's 800m relay team of Willman, Tommy Free, Thomas Schrader and Goble placed second at 1:41.70.
