Tiger Sharks win boys swim meet; HHS begins swim program

GREENFIELD — The McClain Tiger Shark boys swim team opened their home slate of meets with a tri-team win over the Hillsboro Indians and Seven Hills Saturday morning at McClain High School.
The MHS boys totaled 140 points in the win, with HHS in second at 68 points and Seven Hills in third at 38.
McClain, in the boys swim meet, won eight events, while HHS won two in their inaugural meet as HHS is a club sport for the school this season under head coach Joe Rhonemus.
"The boys got their first-ever win in their first-ever meet, beating Seven Hills in the try meet," Rhonemus said. "Like the girls, we are an inexperienced team and have low numbers. However, we did compete, and I am thrilled with that.
"They all have worked very hard and will continue to do so to learn the sport. It is not just getting in the water and taking off … there is a lot of work involved with swimming. We have several things we need to work on and tweak, but as the season goes on, I feel we will get better every time we are in the pool."
The Tiger Sharks, who are coached by Bradley George, won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:10.91 swam by Tommy Free, Adomas Fabin, Aaron Litteral and Tommy Henry. HHS was second at 2:20.19 with Paul Burton, Connor Ernst, Nathan Boone and Braden Wildey.
The 200-yard individual medley was won by Hillsboro's Boone at 2:34.96, followed in second place by Litteral (MHS) at 2:57.38.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Fabin won at :25.75, followed in second by Wildey (HHS) at :26.82 and in third was Henry (MHS) at :28.69.
McClain won the 100-yard butterfly with Ryan Page winning with a time of 1:43.50. In second was Guy Bailey (HHS) at 1:57.19, and in third was Storm Faulconer (MHS) at 2:07.88.
HHS won the 100-freestyle with Boone winning with a time of :59.40. Henry (MHS) was second, and third was Trace Poore (MHS).
The group of Fabin, Free, Henry and Daniel Mottie led MHS to a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:50.90, followed in second by HHS at 1:54.50 with Burton, Ernst, Boone and Wildey.
Nick Torbett (MHS) won the 100-yard backstroke at 1:23.63, with Burton (HHS) in second at 1:31.62 and Poore (MHS) in third at 1:44.72.
Litteral (MHS) won the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:28.47.
The 400-yard freestyle relay was won by MHS (Fabin, Mottie, Litteral, Page) at 4:30.50. The MHS B team was second at 5:34.37 with a team of Poore, Bryan Riley, Ryan Wilkin and Branden Adams. The 400-yard freestyle MHS B team are all new to the high school swim team and dropped over 13 seconds off their time from their most recent meet just three days before.[[In-content Ad]]

In the girls swim meet, Seven Hills won with 108 points, followed by MHS in second (83 points) and HHS in third (70 points).
In the 200-yard relay, HHS (Amie Griffith, Alexandra McKenna, Syndi Cox, Krista Savage) finished in second at 2:25.66, and third was MHS (Kaylee Smith, Amber Sowders, Morgan Dettwiller, Kayla Mosley) at 2:37.60.
Dettwiller (MHS) was second in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:32.19, and in third was McClain's Taylor Wheaton at 3:26.10.
In the 200-yard medley, Griffith (HHS) won with a time of 3:11.25. In second was Jillian Eltzroth (HHS) at 4:07.28.
Hillsboro's Krista Savage was second in the 50-yard freestyle at :33.25.
In the 100-yard butterfly event, Cox (HHS) was second at 1:13.47.
Griffin (HHS) was second in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:14.25.
Alyssa Faulconer (MHS) was second in the 500-yard freestyle at 8:46.09, and McClain's Kaylee Smith was third at 8:50.72.
HHS was second in the 200-yard freestyle (Griffith, McKenna, Cox, Savage) at 2:11.66 and in third was the MHS B team (Sowders, Ehlers, Faulconer, Dettwiller) at 2:13.56.
"The girls did well in their first-ever meet and might have pulled out a second-place finish had it not been for a couple of DQ's and that we were missing three of our girls," Rhonemus said. "We are a very inexperienced team, and the things that went wrong can be fixed. I am proud of these girls and proud that even though this was not a winning day, their times all dropped, which in swimming is a major thing.
"I am looking forward to seeing what this competition does to change their thoughts and desire for the sport."
Cox (HHS) was third in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:17.46. In the 100-yard breaststroke Sowders (MHS) was second at 1:32.53 and third was McKenna (HHS) at 1:36.72.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, MHS A (Dettwiller, Brittany Caskey, Lindsey Parsons, Faulconer) was second at 5:29.31. In third was the MHS B team (Smith, Anna Ehlers, Wheaton, Kayla Mosley) at 5:57.96.
