One bad inning haunts Indians in loss to Washington

HILLSBORO — The Hillsboro Indians are currently in the midst of a youth movement as a majority of their players are gaining valuable varsity experience on the go and in a hurry. That didn't change Wednesday as the Tribe allowed the visiting Washington Blue Lions to build a seven-run inning, en route to a 14-6 HHS loss at Shaffer Park.
Hillsboro scored their runs in the second and third inning but were held scoreless for the final four.
"That's three of our four losses where we had that one bad inning," HHS head coach Tim Hunt said. "We had a couple errors, and right now we don't deal with adversity very well.
"We got down on ourselves, and they (WCH) scored runs. We are trying to get across to our guys how to deal with adversity and how to overcome it."
For HHS, their first four runs came in the bottom of the second with Brandon Carter, Trey Moberly, Zach Stacy and Cole Reveal all rounding the bases for the Tribe. Stacy began the inning by jogging to first after being hit by a pitch.

That was followed by walks by Reveal and Carter. Moberly singled, batting in a run, and Ryan LeMaster followed with a base hit. Also in the inning, Ty Crum forced a walk as all the action occurred with no outs.
In the third inning for the Tribe, Stacy and Reveal scored runs. In the inning, Nick Stacy and Zach Stacy both singled, while Reveal, Carter and Moberly all drew consecutive walks.
For the Blue Lions, they scored two runs in the second, three in the third, seven in the fourth and for good measure added two final runs in the seventh inning.
The Blue Lions (1-0) totaled 14 hits.
Charged with the loss for HHS was Nick Stacy. Pitching in relief was Seth Meyer. The win went to Washington's Derek Shaw who came in the game during the fourth inning.
HHS totaled seven hits, with Moberly finishing 3-for-4 with a walk.
"One positive is we are starting to hit the ball better," Hunt said. "I like how Trey (Moberly) is coming along at the plate. He hit the ball hard, and that's what we need.
"We have to put this loss to the side and get ready for (Thursday). Being so young this season, we just have to learn to deal with adversity better like I said before and do the little things right."
The Indians play again on Thursday as they travel to Blanchester in a non-league game.
