Leibreich wins Teays Valley Viking Invitational

Hillsboro senior and '12 state qualifier Reese Leibreich won the Teays Valley Viking Invitational this past weekend, defeating three opponents en route to the first singles championship.

Also at the invitational, Hillsboro's Alex Rhoads was second place in second singles, going 2-1 in the event.

In the first singles, Leibreich defeated Marcos Gasca (Westerville) 8-2, Brad Stawser (Teays Valley) 8-2 and Xan Lindow (Westerville) 8-6.

Rhoads defeated Shane Curtain 8-2 and Ryan Ginise (Granville) 8-7. Rhoads lost to Hunter Staley (Lancaster) 8-6 for second place.

In first doubles at the invitational, Ryan Palmer and Patrick Shanahan lost to Myer and Strahine (Westerville) 8-0.

In the second doubles matchup, Brendan Eltzroth and Zach Basford defeated Bussard and Engel (Teays Valley) 8-2. The duo lost to Graffeo and Marlow (Granville) 3-8 and Elick and Gugel-Bryant (Lancaster) 2-8.

On April 19 (Friday), the Indians lost 4-1 to Waverly in a non-league matchup.

In first singles, Leibreich defeated Phil Hart in straight sets by scores of 6-1, 6-2.

In second singles, Rhoads lost to Nathan Wilburn 1-6, 2-6, and in third singles, Shanahan fell to Joe Henderson 1-6, 4-6.

The first doubles duo of Eltzroth and Basford lost to Carter Good and Andrew Lightle 2-6, 0-6. The doubles team of Michael Gunderman and Palmer lost to Trevor James and Austin Lightle 2-6, 0-6.
