Lady Indians fall in 5 innings

The Hillsboro Lady Indians split their season series with the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons this year, as the second meeting was controlled by the Lady Falcons, with CM winning 13-2, Monday in their South Central Ohio League matchup.
Hillsboro's two lone runs were scored in the bottom of the fourth as Haylee Wehrung and Kerstin Thornburgh rounded the bases for the Lady Indians, scoring on a one-out, two-RBI single by Madison Snyder.
Wehrung reached the bases on a five-pitch walk, and Thornburgh singled.
HHS now stands at 5-8 overall and 3-3 in the SCOL.
"We don't need to play harder, we need to play smarter," HHS head coach Katie Moberly said. "We gave up too many runs in the first inning, and I told the girls they have the ability, but they didn't come to the park with their heads softball-ready.
"Clinton-Massie came out and hit the ball well."
[[In-content Ad]]The other HHS hit was off the bat of Erin Hagan in the second inning for a single.
Other than that scoring inning by the Lady Indians, the rest of the game belonged to the Lady Falcons as they scored six runs in the first and seven runs in the fifth.
CM finished with 16 hits with eight of the hits coming in the six-run first and seven hits coming in the seven-run fifth.
Scoring runs for CM in the first were D.Smith, Lauer, Fisher, Robinson, Wood and Flanigan.
Rounding the bases for CM in the fifth were Smith, Fisher, Wood, Davis, C.Smith, Flanigan and Vaughn.
The loss was charged to Thornburgh, and the win went to Flanigan of CM as she held HHS to just three hits, while striking out eight.
"With CM having their pitcher back, that makes a big difference compared to the first time we faced them," Moberly said. "With her pitching, it helped them quite a bit."
HHS will play again on Wednesday as they travel to Greenfield to face rival McClain in an SCOL matchup at 5 p.m.
