Indians win West Jefferson Invitational

The Hillsboro wrestling team placed first at the 18-team 2012 West Jefferson Invitational this past week, ending the 2012 calendar year with a 449-point effort on their way to the first-place finish in the two-day wrestling tournament.
Eastwood was second with 420 points, and in third was Watkins Memorial at 405.
HHS placed first as they had three wrestlers end their tournament with a first-place finish as Brandon Carter, Kordell Ford and Craig Jackson each earned wins in their respective first-place matches.
Carter, in his championship match, won the 106-pound weight class with a pin fall over Adkins (Western Brown) at the 2:30 mark of the match in the second period. This was the second consecutive year Carter won at the West Jefferson Invitational. Two years ago, Carter was second.
Jackson won his 138-pound championship match with an 11-8 decision over Montague of Cleveland Independence.[[In-content Ad]]
Ford was first at 152 pounds, defeating Steffany of Granville by a 5-2 score. Last year, Ford won at the tournament in the 160-pound class, and two years ago, Ford was third at 152.
Also placing in the '12 tournament for the Indians was Drew Huffman, as he finished in second at 182 pounds, falling via pin fall to Patterson of Eastwood in the championship match.
Toby Warrington placed third for HHS as he won his 113-pound third-place match with a pin of Holter of Watkins Memorial at 1:24.
Ryan Kelly of HHS was third with a win in his 120-pound third-place match against McCullough of Eastwood at 1:49.
Connor Johnston was also third as he won with a technical fall (17-2) over Westland's Delgado at 160 pounds.
Skylar Murphy was sixth in the 220-pound class as he fell via pin fall in the fifth-place 220-pound match against Canterbury of Franklin Heights.
Last year, the Indians were sixth in the same tournament.
