Indians out-hit by Falcons

It wasn't the Hillsboro Indians' day at Shaffer Park Monday evening, as the Clinton-Massie Falcons made solid contact with the baseball, leading to an 11-1 run-rule loss for the host Indians in five innings.
Hillsboro had been on a streak where they won four of five games, including three in a row, until this past weekend where they fell twice to Batavia. The loss to CM gives HHS three straight losses.
The Indians lost to BHS by scores of 6-2 and 7-4 on Saturday.
[[In-content Ad]]Those losses move HHS to an overall record of 4-12 this season, along with a South Central Ohio League mark of 2-4, as they have been swept by CM. HHS lost to the Falcons, 11-7 earlier this season.
On Monday, though, it was all Massie, as the visitors won the SCOL contest by scoring three runs in the first and two in the third for a 5-0 lead.
CM moved their lead to 11-0 following a top half of the fourth where they added six runs.
"Clinton-Massie hit the ball well," HHS head coach Tim Hunt said. "They hit the cover off it. We made a couple defensive lapses, but you can't take anything away from Clinton-Massie."
The Indians' one run scored in the bottom of the fourth, as they were unable to add any more runs to hold of the run-rule.
Scoring the Indians' run was Trey Moberly when he doubled to reach the bases to lead off the fourth. Moberly eventually scored on a passed ball.
The Indians were held to three hits. They came off the bats of Brandon Carter, Moberly and Alex Vanzant. Ty Crum reached the bases when he was hit by a pitch in the fourth. Carter also drew a walk in the top of the first.
"The potential is there with our team," Hunt said. "We've beaten some good teams this year, we just have to be more consistent.
"The consistency will come with time. There are times where we click, and then there are times where we show our age."
For the Massie scoring, Mineer, Merkle and Santoro all crossed home plate in the first, while Santoro and Merkle added the two CM runs in the third.
In the fourth, Murray, Santoro, Merkle, Collett, Donaldson and one other CM player crossed home plate, as CM had six hits in the inning (one walk), including a three-RBI double by Collett.
CM totaled 10 hits on the day with Santoro leading at 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two steals and three runs.
The win went to Vinup of CM, while the loss was charged to Hillsboro's Nick Stacy.
HHS will play again on Wednesday as they travel to face Highland County rival McClain at 5 p.m. in a SCOL game at Shaffer Park. That game will be followed with a makeup game vs. London on Thursday and a game at home on Friday vs. Miami Trace.
