Indians drop SCOL game at Madison-Plains

A second-quarter breakout by the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles didn't help the Hillsboro Indians' cause Friday night … in fact, it proved to be the big difference for them as the visiting Tribe fell to the Golden Eagles, 60-49, at MPHS.
The South Central Ohio League loss sends the Indians to an overall record of 5-3 with an SCOL mark of 1-2. The win moves MP to 4-1 in the SCOL, which is the top spot in the league, and an overall record of 5-4.
Both team combined for 15 points in the first quarter as MP led 8-7. Then, in the second eight-minute period, the Golden Eagles outscored HHS, 23-10 for a halftime advantage of 31-17.
In the third, each team scored 15 points, and in the final frame, HHS won the battle, 17-14.
Leading HHS in scoring was Jarrod Hart with a game-high 21 points. Hart scored three points in the first and two in the second but then added seven points in the third (including a 3-pointer) and eight points in the fourth with his second 3-pointer of the game.
Hart was also 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Latrell Haithcock followed with 12 points as he was 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Jordan Captain followed with eight points, Zach Young had seven and Reese Leibreich rounded out the scoring with one point.
The Indians were 17-of-24 from the free-throw line, while MP was 11-of-16.
Leading MP was Damon Glispie with 15 points all coming from 3-pointers. Glispie sank three treys in the second and two more in the third.
Hunter Butin followed with 13. Ryne Davis and Alex Williams each scored 11 in the win over HHS. Davis made two 3-pointers.
The Indians will play again on Tuesday, Jan. 8 when they host Miami Trace. On Friday, Jan. 11, HHS will host East Clinton, and on Jan. 12, the Indians will host London in a make-up game that was postponed earlier this season.
