Hillsboro tennis wins over Wheelersburg

It took until the end of the second doubles match, but the Hillsboro boys tennis team won for the third time this week, defeating visiting Wheelersburg, 3-2 Friday night at Hillsboro High School.
The Indians this week have team wins over Western Brown, Bethel-Tate and WHS en route to their three-win opening week. The loss came to Chillicothe on Thursday at CHS.
"When we have everyone here, we are competitive," HHS head coach LaRue Turner said. "We have leadership with two seniors, and (Friday) was just a good win.
"We've had a good start this week, and I want us to carry this momentum into next week as we begin league play."

Earning the first win of Friday was senior Reese Leibreich as he won in straight sets against Walker Roe by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Leibreich, a state qualifier in '12, is 4-0 in matches this season.
In third singles, the second win for HHS was by Patrick Shanahan, who won in straight sets by scores of 6-2, 6-5 against Zack Jordan.
The match which gave the Indians the overall win was the second singles duo of sophomores Sawyer Davis and Michael Gunderman as they won two consecutive sets by scores of 7-6, 7-5 over Quentin Sharp and Chancey Bender.
A tough loss went to second singles player Alex Rhoads as he lost set one, 3-6, but rallied back to tie the match against Ethan Hiles by a 7-6 score. In the deciding set, Rhoads lost by a 4-6 score.
In first singles, the duo of Brendan Eltzorth and Ryan Palmer of HHS fell by scores of 3-6, 1-6 to Duncan McDonald and Austin Clark of WHS.
HHS will face East Clinton and Clinton-Massie next week in South Central Ohio League action.
