Hillsboro places 3rd at Hammer & Anvil

The Hillsboro Indians placed third at the 16-team Western Brown Hammer & Anvil tournament this past Saturday at WBHS.
 
The Indians totaled 238 team points, as Campbell County High School was the winner with 313 points. Rochester was second at 267.5.
 
Gaining the lone first-place finish for the Indians was senior Brandon Carter at 106 pounds in the pool of 16 wrestlers, as he was 4-0 in matches, all won with pin falls.
 
In the first-place match, Carter pinned Chris Settles of New Lexington at 4:40. In the semifinals, Carter pinned Trey Lynch of Blanchester in 30 seconds.
 
In his third-round match, Carter pinned Justin Gibbs of Clinton-Massie at 1:46, and in his second-round match, the senior won via pin fall over Nathan Whitman (Franklin) at 1:58. In the opening round, Carter advanced with a bye.
 
At 113 pounds (Pool 16), Matt West of Hillsboro was fourth overall, and at 132 pounds, Hillsboro junior Dillon Hunick was third in the Pool 16.
 
Craig Jackson was third at 138 pounds of the Indians, and Kordell Ford was second at 152 pounds. Connor Johnston placed fourth at 160 pounds, and Drew Huffman was fourth at 182 pounds.[[In-content Ad]]
Ford lost the championship match at 152 pounds to Stephen Myers (Campbell Co.) by a 5-3 decision. In the semifinals, Ford won by a 15-0 tech. fall over Nick Tolliver of New Lexington.
 
In round one, Ford pinned Ryan Tarry (Gallia Academy) at 1:27. Ford advanced with consecutive byes to the semifinals.
 
Jackson won his third-place match over Paul Hamilton (Campbell Co.) by default. Hunick won his 132 pound match by a 6-5 decision over Joey Gunther of Rochester. In the semifinals, Jackson lost via pin fall at 3:48, and in the third round, Jackson defeated Justin Brewer (Franklin), 11-5. In round two, Jackson won by a major decision over Nick Wells (Western Brown), 18-8. In round one, Jackson advanced with a bye.
 
Johnston lost his third-place match to Max Erwin (Mechanicsburg) by pin at 3:38 at 160. In the first round, Johnston won by a 5-4 decision over Jordan Dawson (Blanchester). In round two, the senior defeated Daquwan Mitchell (Hamilton), 7-4. In his third match, Johnston won over Jacob Wright (Franklin) due to an injury.
 
Huffman lost his third-place match at 182 pounds by a 2-1 decision against Alex Nori (Franklin). Huffman began his tournament with a round-one win over Brandin McKinney of Hamilton at 1:30. In the second round, he advanced with a bye, and in the third round, Huffman pinned Kevin Smith (Valley View) at 3:05. In the semifinals, Huffman lost by pin fall at 4:24 against Elisiah Matthews (Campbell Co.).
 
Toby Warrington was seventh for HHS, winning his seventh-place match by a 10-8 decision over Nicc Wells of Hamilton.
 
In the two pools of five category, Ryan Kelley was third for HHS at 120 pounds, and Skylar Murphy was sixth at 220 pounds. Also wrestling for HHS was Cody Whaley (126).
