Chad Fields resigns as Hillsboro girls varsity basketball head coach

HILLSBORO — It was announced Friday by Chad Fields that he was resigning as the head coach of the Hillsboro Lady Indians basketball program after two seasons.
Fields said the following in a statement to The Highland County Press on his resignation:
“Hillsboro, thank you for the past two years of supporting me as your head girls basketball coach. I have truly been blessed and honored to lead our athletes on and off the court.
“I have had the opportunity to work with some of the greatest people I have ever met while here at Hillsboro High School. Hillsboro will always hold a special place in my heart. I will truly miss being a Hillsboro Indian.
“To the current players and alumni, thank you. These past two seasons have truly been an amazing experience. Thank you for bringing great attitude, effort and enthusiasm every single day. Your growth and commitment over the last two seasons to Hillsboro basketball has been nothing short of amazing. I wish you all the best, and go Indians.”
Fields was named the head coach for the 2020-21 season, and this past season (2021-22) his HHS Lady Indians team became the first HHS girls team in two decades to gain a win over rival McClain, a feat that hadn’t been accomplished since the early 2000s. Hillsboro won both games this past season against their Highland County and Frontier Athletic Conference counterpart.
Field’s team had six wins during the ’20-21 season, and this past season they had an overall mark of 11-11 overall, a five-win improvement over the previous season. HHS also totaled 10 wins in the FAC the past two seasons, with six of those wins this past season as HHS had a winning conference mark of 6-4, in a three-way tie for second place in the FAC standings.
Fields’ first win with the program as head coach came on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 with a 44-39 defeat of the Washington Lady Blue Lions at HHS.
