The adventure continues; HHS defeats Jackson in sectional opener

The adventure of the 2010 Division I SE District Sectional tournament will continue for the Hillsboro Lady Indians for at least one more game, as they defeated the Jackson IronLadies, 7-1 Tuesday at Richards Memorial Field.
The match was Hillsboro's from the start as they controlled the tempo by pressuring the defense of Jackson with an offensive onslaught, putting them up 4-1 at halftime.
"Today was a great win for us," Hillsboro coach Leslie Molen said. "The girls played great, and I'm proud of them."
The four-goal first half started with Hillsboro senior Lauren Colliver, who will play for Division I Miami University Redhawks next fall, kicking the ball from 35 yards out into the back of the net for the Lady Indians' first goal with 38:29 left on the board.
Jackson answered the goal at the 29:01 mark of the same half.
After multiple missed opportunities at the goal by HHS, Jackson tied the game with a goal from senior Erica Smith on a penalty kick.
That was all the IronLadies could offer up in the sectional contest.
After JHS scored their goal, HHS senior Ashley Meyer put HHS up for good, with the assist from senior Leah Pence, at the 16:49 mark of the first half.
The rest of the goals added to the lead of the Lady Indians.
HHS went up by two goals after Taylor Moberly knocked in a goal off a corner kick by Pence.
Colliver scored her second, of what turned into a three-goal night, when she planted the ball into the net from 15 yards away for the final goal of the opening half, leaving 12:06 on the clock.
HHS scored three goals in the second half with Madison Colliver scoring first, 43 seconds into the half, kicking the ball into the right corner of the net.
Lauren Colliver gained the hat-trick with 20:03 left in regulation when her goal was assisted by sister Madison Colliver for a 6-1 advantage.
The final goal came from a 30-yard kick by Pence with 15:25 left on the scoreboard clock. She was assisted by A.J. Sanders.
For the IronLadies, keeper Heather Thieken (a senior) made some top-notch saves, stopping the Hillsboro attack numerous times during the 80-minute match. Two of her better saves came near the 26-minute mark of the first half.
HHS had a yellow card with 13 minutes left in the first half.
The Lady Indians will play in the next round of the sectionals on Thursday as they will host the winner of Miami Trace and Logan.
"Right now we need to start focusing on Thursday's game," Molen said. "We'll take this adventure one game at a time."
