Helping cancer patients with 'Fight Bags'
Courtesy of Patty Meyers
This is the eighth year of what started as a 10-year-old boy's (my grandson) dream to help cancer patients after visiting his great-grandfather while getting treatments.
Donations are flowing in, and this year we are thinking 135 "fight bags" will be delivered, but maybe more. We added the VA hospital last year to help the veterans who are struggling and in need. The staff people were overwhelmed and so thankful. Deadline for donations is Dec. 15, with the delivery date probably Dec. 17.
It is such an inspiring thing to see people give to people they don't know but want to help. Lots of kind people in our community and we are truly blessed to live here.

The letter below is what is included in each bag for the patients.
Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Hello,
If you are receiving this bag, it’s because you heard the news that no one wants to ever hear. In this bag we hope that you find items to make your fight a little easier. Fight Bags was the idea of a 10-year-old boy who watched his great-grandpa fight cancer. Since 2018, we have been collecting community donations to create bags to help where help is needed.
Your fight won’t be easy but know that you are loved and prayed for. Until we can cure cancer…We will FIGHT cancer with love one bag at a time.
Psalms 121
121: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2: My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. 3: He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4: Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5: The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. 6: The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. 7: The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. 8: The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
I wish this never happened to you. Cancer sucks, and I learned that the hard way when my Grandpa Howard fought cancer. In honor of him, we started this to show you are not alone and we are here to help with this bad time in your life. Remember, we are here for you.
Love, Colton
And my Fight Bags Friends
