Two Hillsboro men were arrested March 19 after an altercation with local law enforcement officers.

Arbie Bowen, 54, and James Rust, 40, were arrested early Monday morning. Bowen is charged with having a concealed weapon. Rust faces charges of resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, assault and having a firearm under disability.

The Hillsboro Police Department and a deputy from the Highland County Sheriff's Office responded to a traffic stop on North High Street at 2:58 a.m.

According to an HPD report, a loaded handgun was located in the vehicle. The report said Rust became combative and fought with officers, and attempted to eat small packages of a white powder substance.
