Report shows Ward leading Ayres

Highland Republican Party Chair and Ohio GOP state vice chair Kay Ayres may have lost her bid for the Republican Party's State Central Committee, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
With unofficial numbers in, Ayres easily outdistanced Pike County Republican Bonnie Ward in Highland County, 3,113 votes to 1,915.
However, the Dispatch, citing "allies" of Gov. John Kasich, reported that Ward "led 53 percent to 47 percent with nearly all precincts reporting in the 10-county district."
In Ross County, Ward received 57 percent of the votes to 43 percent for Ayres.
“It sends a message across the state that it’s time for a quick, orderly, cordial passing of the baton, so that we can circle the wagons and win against our real enemy in the fall,” Douglas J. Preisse, Franklin County Republican Party chairman, told the Dispatch.
A professional educator, Ward is from Beaver, Ohio, in Pike County.
She graduated from Eastern High School in 1979 and from Rio Grande College in 1986 where she received her bachelor of science degree in teaching. She also graduated in 2000 with a master’s degree from Marygrove College in Michigan. Ward is now in her 28th year of teaching.
In addition to serving as vice chair of the Ohio GOP, Ayres chairs the local Republican Party and serves on the Highland County Board of Elections and the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees.
