Rep. Schmidt speaks to Highland County TEA Party

Second District Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, R-Loveland, was the guest speaker at the Highland County TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party Monday, Jan. 9 at the Hi-TEC Center in Hillsboro.
Approximately 60 area residents were in attendance.
Schmidt, who was elected in 2005, serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as well as the Foreign Affairs Committee. She’s also a member of the Agriculture Committee, serving as chairwoman of its Subcommittee on Nutrition and Horticulture.
Schmidt also served four years as a lawmaker in the Ohio House of Representatives and for 11 years as a member of the Miami Township Board of Trustees in Clermont County.
Schmidt will face Dr. Brad Wenstrup and U.S. Air Force veteran Fred Kundrata in the March 6 Republican primary election. Democrat David Krikorian also has filed to run in the district.
• On Jan. 30, the TEA Party will host a candidates forum for those running for Highland County commissioner.
The event will be held Monday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Hi-TEC building in Hillsboro with Jim Cook serving as moderator.
All six candidates who have filed petitions have been invited to attend and speak to the public about questions regarding Highland County’s future, ideas or plans for development, budgetary restraints and the local economy.
This forum is being made available to the public so that voters will be better prepared to cast an informed vote in the Democratic and Republican primary elections on March 6.
There are two commissioner seats to be filled this year. Incumbents Shane Wilkin and Tom Horst are candidates again, along with Steve Cowdrey, Brenda Losey, Randy Mustard and Josh Patton.
The winners in their respective primary elections will then face the voters again in the November general election.[[In-content Ad]]
