Recount not enough to keep Greenfield's city status

As of March 30, 2011, the city of Greenfield received notification that the official 2010 Federal Census results indicated that the municipality now had a population fewer than 5,000 people.
Accordingly, the city has received a proclamation of village status with a population of 4,639 residents.
Karen S. Daniels, Greenfield Finance Director/Auditor, said "As a result of this notification, a resolution passed by council (resolution no 11-11) directed the auditor to make an enumeration as provided in Section 703.02 through 703.05 of the Ohio Revised Code.
"This enumeration began April 6 and ran through April 20. Appointed were four lead enumerators: Richard Counter, Stuart McNeil, Greg Schottelkotte and Michael Gates. Upon review of the new census, the enumeration reflects a total of 4,758 residents, still short of the 5,000 required to maintain city status.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank our enumerators, many volunteers and Finance Department including Carolyn Snodgrass, Margaret Mobley and Rebecca Stuckey for their many hours of hard work and dedication to this project," Daniels said. "They braved the cold, rainy days of April and I am sure wore holes in their shoes and wound up with writer's cramp. Again, I thank them for all their hard work."[[In-content Ad]]
