U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) this week unveiled the Senate Republican Jobs Plan, a blueprint Senate Republicans developed to create private sector growth and strengthen the economy. To view highlights from the press conference, go to http://goo.gl/m22FS.
Highlights of the plan include:
“The Senate Republican Jobs Plan is a pretty simple concept: it is that we need to spur economic growth and create more jobs by increasing private investment, increasing the certainty in our economy and making our economy more competitive.
“You all have heard about the fact that many businesses are not putting their earnings back into their companies. In other words, cash is not being invested to create jobs and expand plant equipment. A lot of this is because of that uncertainty around the regulatory side.
“So this proposal that we are putting out as Republicans has a number of different elements. On regulatory relief, you will see some of the legislation that’s already been proposed as part of this, and then there are some new ideas as well.
“We want to be sure that worker re-training programs are working to be able to actually connect unemployed workers with jobs that are out there in the private sector economy. Our goal is to consolidate, streamline, and make more effective worker re-training.
“Energy security is another part of this. We’ve spent the last few months putting this plan together long before we knew that gasoline was going to be over four bucks a gallon. Now it’s even more important that we focus on getting away from our dangerous dependency on foreign oil. And that means developing more resources here at home, as you will see in the plan.
“We believe there is a direct connection between the record levels of deficits and debts that we are facing now and the lackluster economy we see.
“This is, again, a blueprint of some great ideas put together by our Republican Conference over the last few months. It’s something all of our Republican Senators are going to be out talking about and connecting it directly to this critical budget debate.
“We hope that on a bipartisan basis, we can move these proposals forward and get our economy back on track and create the jobs that we so desperately need.”[[In-content Ad]]
