Peterson sworn in as member of Ohio Senate 

The Ohio Senate today appointed Bob Peterson (R- Sabina) to the 17th Senate District seat, which encompasses Clinton, Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Pike, Ross and Vinton counties as well as portions of Lawrence and Pickaway counties. Peterson replaces former Senator David Daniels, who resigned his seat last month after being named director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture by Governor Kasich. 

“It is an honor to be chosen to join the Ohio Senate, and I am excited for this new opportunity to serve the families and communities of southern Ohio in the Legislature,” Peterson said. “I look forward to working with my fellow legislators on our continuing efforts to bring jobs to Ohio and making government more efficient and responsive to the needs of the people.” 

Peterson and his family are the eighth generation of Petersons to farm in the U.S., growing corn, soybeans, wheat and livestock on their 1,800 acre farm. Peterson served as a Fayette County Commissioner for 14 years before being elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2011. He has been active in Farm Bureau in a variety of leadership positions, culminating in his service as Ohio Farm Bureau President for nearly five years. 

“Bob’s experience as a farmer, business owner and local official will certainly be an asset to our chamber as we look to further our progress in improving our economy, creating jobs and reforming government,” said Ohio Senate President Tom Niehaus (R- New Richmond). “I want to welcome Bob to the Ohio Senate and I look forward to working with him in the weeks and months ahead.” 

Peterson will serve as a member of the Senate Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Committee, the Financial Institutions Committee and the State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee. 

A graduate of The Ohio State University, Peterson and his wife Lisa live on their farm in Fayette County with their three children. They are active in church, 4-H, FFA and other community activities.
