Parade, craft fair, luminary planned for annual Mowrystown Christmas celebration.

The village of Mowrystown will start the holiday season by decorating the village Christmas tree Friday, Nov. 27, followed by the annual parade and craft show, on Saturday, Dec. 5, and an outdoor luminaria display planned for Dec. 24.

Residents are invited to help decorate the community tree at 5 p.m. Nov. 27. Donations of outdoor, non-returnable ornaments are welcome. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

The annual Christmas parade has been set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. Lineup begins at 11:30 a.m. at Crop Production Services parking lot on S.R. 321.

All area businesses, churches, organizations, youth groups and individuals are invited to participate in this year‚s parade. In addition to walking units and floats, antique machinery, fire and rescue units, and classic or historical vehicles are invited to join the parade. No pre-registration is required to enter a unit in the parade.

The theme of this year's parade is "Christmas in the Country."

The parade's grand marshal is Raymond "Jake" Young, a World War II veteran and long-time resident of Whiteoak Township, who is being honored for his military and community service.

The parade will end at Whiteoak High School, where the annual craft fair will be taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fire department will be serving free hot chocolate and cookies, and children may have their photos taken with Santa. Additional refreshments will be served during the craft show hours by Whiteoak Valley Grange, which is sponsoring the show.

Vendors who wish to participate in the craft show may reserve a table by contacting Ed or Bea Fryman at (937) 442-4704.

The village is also once again sponsoring a house decorating contest, with prizes awarded to first, second and third place. Village council will judge the homes at 7:30 Dec. 16.

The luminaria display (votive candles set in paper bags weighted with sand and placed in rows) will take place Christmas Eve, with lighted candles illuminating West Main Street that evening. Residents throughout the village are invited to decorate their walkways with sandbagged candles as well.

All area residents are invited to come and enjoy the tree decorating Nov. 27, parade and craft show Dec. 5, and luminaria display Dec. 24.[[In-content Ad]]
