Strong winds uprooted Norma “Toni” Goodwin’s apple tree this week, just east of Hoagland.
The U.S. 50 resident said she heard a loud rumbling sound around 2 a.m. Wednesday, April 20 and woke up Wednesday to find the tree split in half and lifted out of the ground.
“It came through with a loud rumble and roar,” Goodwin said. “It sounded like it was all around us. I got the family downstairs and waited for it to calm down.”
The National Weather Service had posted a tornado watch early that morning for all of southwest Ohio. Straight-line winds were cited as causing property damage in northern Kentucky and in Hamilton County. A tornado was confirmed by the NWS north of Dayton in the Celina area.
Flooding was also a concern for many areas this week, prompting a few temporary road closings and a one-hour delay Wednesday for the Lynchburg-Clay Local Schools.
More rain is in the forecast this weekend, as showers and thunderstorms are likely, off and on, Friday through Monday.[[In-content Ad]]
