Hamilton OSHP Post investigating a four-vehicle serious injury crash on I-75

HAMILTON – This morning, May 15, at approximately 2:18 a.m., troopers from the Hamilton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol were dispatched to a reckless, potentially impaired, vehicle traveling the wrong-way, southbound in the northbound lanes, on Interstate 75. Just after 2:20 a.m., as troopers were responding, the wrong-way vehicle caused a four-vehicle serious injury crash. 

The crash occurred on Interstate 75 north of mile marker 18 in West Chester Township, Butler County.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2012 Honda Civic, operated by Damon Holloway,
54, Fairfield, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75. Three
vehicles; a 2016 Honda Accord, operated by Juan Gabriel Espinoza Lopez, 26, Middletown, a 2013 Kia Optima, operated by Stefon Wiggins, 55, Cincinnati, and a 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer combination, operated by Jerome Riley, 41, Lafayette, Ind., were all traveling north on Interstate 75. 

Just before the crash occurred, the Honda Accord was also being reported as a reckless, potentially impaired, vehicle. Initially the wrong-way Honda Civic struck the Honda Accord head-on in the left center lane. After contact, the Honda Civic traveled off the left side of the roadway into the median. After being struck, the Honda Accord rotated around, traveling to the right, and was struck by the Freightliner that was traveling in the right lane. The Kia then struck debris from the crash that was across the roadway.

Holloway was extricated by mechanical means and transported by ground ambulance to UC West Chester Hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. He was then transported by air ambulance to UC Medical Center for further treatment.

Espinoza Lopez was extricated by mechanical means and transported by ground ambulance to UC West Chester Hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. He was then transported by ground ambulance to UC Medical Center for further treatment.

Wiggins and Riley reported no injuries from the crash.

All northbound lanes of Interstate 75 were shut down during the crash investigation. All
northbound lanes were reopened to traffic just before 7:50 a.m.

Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation
by the Hamilton Post.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the West Chester Police Department, West Chester
Fire Department & EMS, Ohio Department of Transportation, and Sandy’s Towing & Recovery.
