Fundraiser planned June 30 for Bill Horne scholarship fund

A cookout fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.
Coordinated by the college’s Student Government Association, the cookout will offer hamburgers, hot dogs and luncheon side dishes and cash donations will benefit the Bill Horne Memorial to be placed at the college’s South Campus near Fincastle. Checks can be made payable to “SSCC/Bill Horne Scholarship.”
Mr. Horne served as an instructor at Southern State for more than 25 years and was consistently recognized for his outstanding instruction, academic leadership, dedication and service. This spring, the title of Faculty Emeritus was posthumously conferred upon Mr. Horne, who passed away Dec. 1, 2010.
