Kentucky State Police Post 11, London, responded to a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred just after 3:16 p.m. on Dec. 10. The accident took place on southbound Interstate I-75 at the 15-mile marker in Whitley County.

Through preliminary investigation, officers determined that a commercial vehicle, operated by 44-year-old Qafa Alfreg of Commerce, Mich., was traveling south on I-75 when a white 2015 Ford F-150, driven by 28-year-old Michael G. Waits of Lynchburg, Ohio, also heading south, allegedly struck the white semi freightliner.

Mr. Waits was transported by EMS to Baptist Health Corbin, where he was treated and released. The passenger of the vehicle, Addison F. Bailey, 24, of Fayetteville, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene by the Whitley County Coroner.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Shane Bowling is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, additional Post 11 personnel, the Whitley County Ambulance Service, Whitley County Fire Department, Whitley County Emergency Management and the Whitley County Coroner’s Office.
