Dr. Kevin Boys, Loveland Schools superintendent, has been named the new president of Southern State Community College, it was announced today.

Boys was one of four finalists for the college presidency and received unanimous support of the SSCC Board of Trustees in a Friday meeting.

After a motion by board vice chair Ralph Shell and a second by Rory Ryan, the board voted, 9-0, to give Boys a three-year contract at an annual salary of $155,000.

Board Chairman Jim Ward thanked the college staff and the board for their work throughout the selection process. Ward and the board also thanked presidential executive assistant Stevetta Grooms, and Mindy Markey, director of human resources for their assistance.

Boys has agreed to begin his SSCC presidency effective Jan. 1, 2010.

Southern State Community College President Sherry Stout earlier announced her retirement, effective Dec. 31.

Ward said Boys was "very excited about the opportunity to serve Southern State Community College."

Boys, 51, has been superintendent of the Loveland City Schools for eight years. Before that he was a teacher, an elementary school principal, a junior high-school principal and an assistant superintendent with Sycamore Community Schools.

"I have spent my entire 31 years in education in a K-12 setting, preparing students to go on to college, so it seems like a natural progression to pursue a leadership position at the college level," Boys told The Loveland Herald in a recent story. "I continue to enjoy my role as superintendent of Loveland City School District, but this unique opportunity presented itself earlier this school year and I felt compelled to pursue this prospect. With
the governor's plan to create a seamless pre-kindergarten through college education system in Ohio, it is a good fit for a K-12 superintendent to become part of that vision," Boys said.

Boys graduated summa cum laude from the University of Cincinnati, received his master's in education from Xavier University, and earned his doctorate degree in education at Miami University.
