CMH Regional Health System’s Diagnostic Imaging Services has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
In 2007 CMH installed a cutting-edge MRI system from Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. The system delivers image quality that allows faster imaging times, quick and accurate diagnosis and maximum patient comfort.
Accreditation for MRI through the ACR requires the submission of both clinical and phantom data from each magnet submitted for accreditation. As with the current program, modular MRI requires that every magnet at a facility must pass the accreditation criteria before the facility is accredited
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
The Clinton Memorial Hospital MRI is designed to improve the patient experience with exclusive patient comfort features. These highlights include the world’s shortest magnet and an ultra-short bore platform, which offers greater openness for claustrophobic patients by minimizing the feeling of being inserted into a tube-like machine.
In addition to its patient comfort features, it is a high-field MRI system that performs a wide variety of MRI exams, including the latest state-of-the-art imaging techniques. For example, the system enables physicians to perform studies using some of the most advanced MRI applications available on the market today. This includes optional packages for brain and cardiac imaging, advanced chest and abdominal examinations, high-resolution imaging, and off-center field-of-view skeletal imaging.
