CMH Regional Health System ranked in the top three percent of area healthcare institutions in a recent food and patient safety audit conducted by Morrison Food Service Group, the Atlanta-based company that provides food service for patients and visitors at Clinton Memorial Hospital.
CMH Nutrition Services provides the room service for patients and their families, prepares the food offered in the Reflections Cafeteria, and also includes the services of three registered clinical dietitians.
The audit by Morrison is a pass/fail test on which services score either in the green zone for exceeding expectations or the red zone for failing to meet expectations.
Reviewers look at such things as temperature control, food storage and protection, equipment and utensils, cleaning and sanitizing, personnel hygiene, and sanitary facilities and controls, according to Tom Fryman, manager of CMH Nutrition Services.
“This green zone designation is a tremendous reflection of the dedication, commitment and customer service attitude of our CMH team,” Fryman says. “The team scored 94 percent out of a possible 100 percent compared to other institutions surveyed in the region. Most institutions average only 80 to 82 percent.”
Morrison Food Service Group holds all its food service accounts to an exceptionally high operational and food safety standard, Fryman acknowledged.
Steritech, an independent survey company, conducted the annual Operations Review and Food Safety Audit. Steritech is an international, private company that surveys the food industry in many different venues from hotels and resorts to hospitals and supermarkets.
It establishes standards to continuously measure and improve the food industry, Fryman notes.
Based primarily on the FDA Model Food Code, internationally accepted benchmarks and industry best practices, Steritech provides an objective, outsider’s view of services. The survey is extensive and consists of eight sections of established standards.
