Brush & Palette Art Guild holds 54th annual art show

The Brush & Palette Art Guild held its 54th annual art show at Southern State Community College's Hillsboro campus the weekend of June 18-19.
Forty-three professional and non-professional members entered 217 paintings, drawings and mixed media works of art judged by Cincinnati artist M. Katherine Hurley.
Hurley awarded many first-, second- and third-place awards in the categories of Oil, Acrylic and Watercolor as well as drawings in Pastel, Color Pencil, Charcoal and Ink.
The "open" category included collage, mixed media and miniatures.
The theme for 2011 was, "Highland County Sights." Many beautiful works were submitted.
Hurley awarded first place to Marilyn Hoaglin, second to Hal Harvey, third to Gretchen Huffman and an honorable mentions to Mary Jo Copeland.
Hurley also chose the following special award winners: Professional Best of Show: Cecile Baird, Professional Reserve Best of Show: Doris Randolph, Non-Professional Best of Show: Jessie Reno, Non-Professional Reserve Best of Show: Kimberly Gates.
The Violet Linton Award is presented to the non-professional artist with a landscape painting and was awarded to Mary Jo Copeland.
The Julia Barthel Award is presented to an artist from the professional division in the watercolor/floral category. This year the award was presented to Connie Barrett.
The People's Choice award was awarded to Ceclie Baird for her Color Pencil work, "Twisted Lemon."
Non -Professional Best of Division in Oil/Acrylic was received by Barbra Hodge, Watercolor by Deanna Flinn, Pastel was awarded to Mary Wilkin, Drawing to Kimberly Gates, Color Pencil received by Jessie Reno and Non-Professional Open Best of Division to Jo Ann White.
The Professional Best of Division in Oil/Acrylic was awarded to Evelyn Pierson, Watercolor to Doris Randolph, Pastel to Debbie Hook, Drawing awarded to Hal Harvey, Color Pencil to Cecile Baird and Professional Best of Division in Open to Jean Malicoat.
