Providing exceptional health care close to where you and your family and friends live remains an essential part of Adena Health System’s mission. With the expansion of facilities and by attracting highly skilled and dedicated physicians, nurses and staff to Adena, they have eliminated the need for most patients to travel elsewhere for care.
In May of 2010, Adena opened its $45.5 million Northeast Wing, the largest construction project since the building of the medical center itself. The three-story wing features the new Women and Children’s Center, a new Cardiovascular Unit and a new Orthopaedic/Spine Unit.
Since the opening, the Women and Children’s Center has been certified as a Level II nursery, enabling infants needing a little extra help after birth to remain close to their families – rather than being moved to another healthcare facility. Adena has also expanded its Cardiovascular and Orthopaedic services – again enabling patients to remain near families and friends.
Not long after the opening of the Northeast Wing, Adena broke ground for a new, freestanding Adena Cancer Center. The 33,000-square-feet, $21 million center is on schedule to be completed later this year. More than just a new building, the center adds new capabilities to the health system's already successful cancer program and will help to provide patients with a new dimension of physician-led, patient-centered care.
"As we look to the future, we will also expand our presence and our brand across our 13-county region," Adena Health System said in a news release this week. "Primary care physicians and nurse practitioners will play a significant role in our regional expansion. With that goal in mind, we are focused on the next five years. The Adena Medical Group will take a more pronounced role in our strategy for growth, with the addition of new healthcare providers in new locations throughout our market area.
"We’ll introduce 'BEST Clinical Planning' to improve the manner in which we treat patients. That means less waiting time, more focused care and more timely and responsive follow-ups. The work being done with the Adena Medical Group and BEST practices will help us address the healthcare changes that we anticipate, which include less reimbursement, reduced costs, bundled payments and more performance measures."
The PACCAR Medical Education Center will continue to play a vital part in Adena’s growth. Along with its existing BSN program, a new Nurse Practitioner program will be launched later in 2011. Adena will be looking to some of its graduating Nurse Practitioners to help Adena meet the growing health care demands of communities in southern Ohio. A Graduate Medical Education program also is being introduced at PACCAR, to help train young physicians who will want to practice in this region.
As a member of the Southern Ohio Healthcare Network, Adena will be expanding telemedicine to two of its regional sites, while enhancing existing services in the main medical center. Their goal is to make health care more accessible and affordable to people living in the Appalachia region of Ohio.
"There is no question that Adena is growing and providing exceptional and essential health care services to southern Ohio," the news releases stated.
"We’ve proudly served this area for 115 years and we will continue our commitment to provide quality care."
