Governor DeWine receives National Distinguished Advocacy Award for championing lifesaving tobacco control policy

Gov. Mike DeWine received the National Distinguished Advocacy Award Wednesday, the most prestigious award presented by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), in recognition of his significant contributions to advance Ohio’s tobacco control policy.
“ACS CAN honored Gov. DeWine’s commitment to preventing laws in Ohio that would have limited local governments efforts to reduce tobacco use and proposing to end the sale of flavored tobacco products to stop Big Tobacco’s deliberate marketing to Ohio’s youth,” said Lisa Lacasse, president of ACS CAN. “His long-standing history of supporting tobacco control legislation demonstrates his commitment to end cancer as we know it for everyone. ACS CAN looks forward to continued partnership on behalf of all who live, work and visit Ohio.”

DeWine for continuing to take a stand for the health of Ohioans by standing up to Big Tobacco and prioritizing the health and safety of our youth,” said Leo Almeida, Ohio government relations director of ACS CAN. “Gov. DeWine knows that Ohio can and must do better when it comes to tobacco control and we look forward to continuing to work with the Governor to reduce the burden of tobacco on Ohioans.”
