Franklin County man sentenced to at least 21 years in prison following guilty plea in 2022 shooting death

Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Mark Serrott recently sentenced Ayub Issack, 21, of Franklin County, to 21 to 26.5 years in prison after Issack pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter with a three-year gun specification, having a weapon under disability, robbery and carrying a concealed weapon.

As to the involuntary manslaughter charge, on June 30, 2022, Issack got into an altercation with the victim in a parking lot along Hudson Street. The victim was driving away in a vehicle when Issack drew a weapon and fired at the vehicle. The victim died from the gunshot wounds.

A separate robbery case involving Issack happened on Oct. 1, 2021. Issack attempted to rob that victim of personal property. Issack inferred he was in possession of a handgun.

Investigators, with a warrant, relying on surveillance video and witness interviews, arrested Issack on July 5, 2022.

Issack pleaded guilty and received a sentence to the following counts:

• 11 to 16.5 years for involuntary manslaughter;

• One year for carrying a concealed weapon;

• Three years for the firearm specification;

• Three years for having a weapon under disability; and

• Three years for robbery.

Jack Wong and Thomas Stoltman, assistant prosecuting attorneys for the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office, prosecuted the case against Issack.
