Eldon Dale Schraw

Eldon Dale Schraw, 68, of Hillsboro, beloved educator and devoted family man, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 23, 2025. 

Dale dedicated his life to nurturing minds and spirits, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and knowledge.

He was born Dec. 9, 1956 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Eldon F. and Barbara (Ballein) Schraw. 

A proud 1975 graduate of Hillsboro High School, Dale continued his education at Wilmington College, where he earned a bachelor of science degree, followed by a master of education from Xavier University. He spent 17 fulfilling years teaching at Southern State Community College before retiring from the Greenfield McClain School District after 25 impactful years.

In addition to his professional achievements, Dale was a member of the Liberty Lions Club and an active participant in the Highland County Church of Christ. His contributions extended beyond the classroom, as he played a pivotal role in helping his parents establish Pasquale's Pizza, a cherished local establishment in Hillsboro.

Dale is survived by his loving spouse, Karen Schraw; his children, Jeremy (Crystal) Schraw, Amanda (Shane Barnett) Bigger and Brooke (Michael Brownlee) Gibson; and his adored grandchildren, Joshua Schraw, Carson Bigger, Keagan Bigger, Kya Gibson, Jordyn Brownlee, Brooklyn Brownlee, Bella Barnett and Layla Brownlee. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Schraw; sister, Brenda McLaughlin; brother-in-law, Gary (Dottie) Hughes; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Homer) Bell and Deborah (John) Malone; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Besides his parents, Dale was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Schraw; and a sister, Sandra Lowe.

A celebration of life will be held on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Highland County Church of Christ, 6670 U.S. Rt. 50 West, Hillsboro, where family and friends will come together to honor and remember Dale's remarkable life. We invite all who knew him to join in sharing memories, laughter, and love as we pay tribute to a man who touched so many lives.

Dale Schraw will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Schraw. He was a teacher of mine at McClain High School back in the mid- 1980s. He was for sure a great teacher and person. Prayers for the family.
