Clermont County man charged with felonious assault after allegedly shooting roommate

On June 7 at 1:54 p.m., the Clermont County Communications Center received a 911 call from a male reporting a shooting incident at a residence in the 2000 block of Spring Street in Tate Township. The caller told dispatchers that his neighbor came to his name and told him she had been shot.

Deputies from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded, with the first units arriving at 1:57 p.m. Tate Township EMS also responded and arrived at 2 p.m. The victim was identified as a 36-year-old female, who was actively bleeding from a single gunshot wound to her lower back, which was deemed non-life-threatening.

The victim told the deputies on the scene that Jesse Herndon, 38, of Tate Township was allegedly responsible for shooting her. University of Cincinnati Air Care transported the victim to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition.

At 2:14 p.m., Clermont County deputies located and arrested Herndon inside the shared residence. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Clermont Mercy Hospital as a precaution. Herndon refused to provide a statement or cooperate with detectives during the investigation. Additional Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Crime Scene Unit responded to process the scene and interview witnesses.

Herndon was charged with one count of felonious assault, a felony of the second degree. The investigation remains ongoing and will be reviewed in its entirety with the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office for presentation to a grand jury.
