20 Highland County athletes named to All-District girls soccer team; LC's Massey, West, Chisman take top honors

The Southeast District Coaches Association this week announced the 2023 All-District girls soccer teams, with Highland County having 20 players selected as well as the Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year for Division III.

Lynchburg-Clay senior Jade Massey was named the Division III Player of the Year for the 2023 season. She has 40 goals and nine assists thus far in ’23, ahead of their regional semifinal game Tuesday.

Also for Lynchburg-Clay head coach Dennis West was named the Division III Coach of the Year, while assistant Shelby Chisman was named Division III Assistant Coach of the Year. The Lady Mustangs are currently 14-0-4 with a postseason record of 3-0, as they are scheduled to play Fairfield in the regional semifinals Oct. 31.

Combined for Division II and III, Highland County had six players named to the All-District first team. McClain senior Luca Matesic and Hillsboro senior Rylie Scott were both named first-team All-District in Division II. For Division III, Fairfield seniors Faith Donley and Avery Teeters, along with Lynchburg-Clay seniors Lainie Lunsford and Massey, all earned first-team honors.

Receiving second-team honors were Hillsboro senior Hannah Holland and McClain junior Kenzie Wise in Division II. Lynchburg-Clay’s Aubrey Slack and Olivia Van Fleet and Fairfield’s Hannah Hamilton, all juniors, and Fairfield senior Kennedy Zink were Division III second-team All-District.

McClain sophomores Becca Bergstrom and Bailey Parson, as well as Hillsboro senior Ramsey Haines and sophomore Kobie Miles, were all Div. II honorable mention selections. Lynchburg-Clay sophomore Caitlyn Collins and senior Brya McClain, and Fairfield junior Claire Newkirk and senior Emmi Vance, were named to the Division III honorable mention list.
