GREENFIELD – I haven’t written a newspaper column in 12 years. Now that I have my excuse out of the way, just in case you don’t enjoy – or have a harsh critique of this column, I will continue. I have never pretended to be a learned journalist. The extent of my college education was a major in physical education and health. Anything I do know about writing a column comes from the teachings of Roger Ross and Rick Schluep during the old days of the Greenfield Daily Times.

Hillsboro graduate Kendal Coleman and the Cincinnati Bearcat baseball team wrapped up a three-game set against the Villanova Wildcats this past weekend, in their Big East opening series, where the Bearcats dropped the first two, but ended the trip with a win on Sunday.

The 2010 District 14 All-Star Classic is set to tip-off on Thursday, April 1 at Eastern Pike High School. Both games will feature players from both the South Central Ohio League and Southern Hills League, along with other players from the District 14 area.

Hillsboro graduate and current University of Cincinnati sophomore Kendal Coleman played in his first game of the season Wednesday, as the Bearcats dropped a 4-3 contest to the Dayton Flyers at TWC Stadium.

Greenfield native Dante Jackson tied the Sweet 16 game in Salt Lake City, Utah, against the Kansas State Wildcats late in the second half with his play from beyond the arc. Jackson's big 3-pointer came with 3:06 left in the second half, knocking down the 3-ball from well beyond the three-point line. But the end of the game was nowhere near finishing as each team battled, though in the end KSU earned the trip to the Elite 8 with a 101-96 double overtime victory, ending the Musketeers' season.
