    Dusty Wright is just like hundreds of youngsters who spend their summer playing baseball at Shaffer Park. He runs bases, adjusts his baseball cap and swings the bat each time he sets foot in the batter’s box. But one thing sets Dusty apart from other kids who play baseball in the summer. Like Pete Wyshner (Pete Gray) and Jim Abbott before him, this 12-year-old first baseman plays the game of baseball with just one hand. But not for a moment does he let that be an obstacle or a setback to his athletic goals and dreams.

    J.R. Moberly has returned to the basketball court to lead a group of Hillsboro Indians once again. The difference is this time he will not be leading the boys varsity team in 2010, but the former boys head coach will be leading the girls team, trying to help a program regain its glory days after winning a handful of games in recent years.

    Hillsboro Post 129 made things interesting in the late innings Saturday afternoon at Shaffer Park. Though Hillsboro scored six runs late, it was Chillicothe Post 62 who were winners in the season opener, defeating Post 129, 9-6.

    CINCINNATI — Former Hillsboro standout Kendal Coleman recently finished his second year of baseball with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats.

        The first of November 1975 saw Circleville edge Washington in a tough battle, by a score of 7-0. Biff Bumgarner scored the game’s only touchdown on a one-yard burst. The Tiger defense took it from there and ended the Blue Lions’ hopes for a shot at the title.

    Before a fireworks display capped off Opening Night festivities at VA Memorial Stadium, the Chillicothe Paints baseball club lit up the Richmond (Ind.) River Rats for eight runs, including a lead-off home run in the first Paints at-bat, for an 8-2 victory to start their 18th season.
