Late innings lead to Indians loss against Miami Trace

The Hillsboro Indians and Miami Trace Panthers battled in a Frontier Athletic Conference showdown Monday evening at HHS, where two big innings led to the Indians dropping the home contest by a 9-5 score. 

Hillsboro led early at 2-0 when the first inning was complete and 2-1 after the second inning. The score was tied at 2-2 after the top of the fourth inning, but the Indians broke the tied score with three runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 5-2 lead. 

The top of the fifth and sixth innings is where Miami Trace took over the game with a four-run fifth, followed by three runs in the top of the sixth for a four-run win. 

There were a total of 27 hits in the game with MTHS having 14 and HHS finishing with 13. The Panthers committed one error, and the Indians committed two errors in the loss. 

For Hillsboro, Brody Kelch was 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Having two hits each were Jack Cornele (2-for-3, two doubles, two runs, a HBP, one RBI), Von Steward (2-for-4, one RBI) and Mason Dumpert (2-for-4, one steal). 

Finishing with one hit each were Walker Pence (1-for-3, one run, one walk), Luke Holland (1-for-3, two RBI, one walk), Brady Juillerat (1-for-4) and Brayden Oberrecht (1-for-4). 

Holland pitched 5.0 innings and was charged with four earned runs with five strikeouts. Pence pitched 2.0 innings, charged with three earned runs with three strikeouts.  

Miami Trace was led by Keenan Moore at 3-for-4 with two runs, and teammate Jameson Hyer at 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run and two RBI. Cooper Enochs hit a home run for MTHS. 

The loss puts HHS at 2-3 overall.
