Dear Highland County Community,
The purpose of this letter is to extend a personal invitation to the Annual Special Olympics for our Highland County children and adults with developmental disabilities. It's hard to fully explain, but when you let them play sports … their whole world changes. They leave a world filled with misunderstanding, fear, routine and frustration to enter a new world of self-worth, friendship, accomplishment and delight.
To a Special Olympics athlete, sports can mean everything.
When you hand them a basketball, they learn teamwork, develop self-confidence, push themselves further and enjoy tired muscles. In reality, when you let them play sports, their whole world changes, and so does yours. You start feeling better because you're making a difference. You forget your own problems and focus on others. You can make some very good friends and become a better one. By supporting Special Olympics athletes, you are reminded of thankfulness, shown what sportsmanship ought to be, and feel glad you decided to help them play sports.
Come and support our community by attending the Annual Highland County Special Olympics on Saturday, May 21 at the Greenfield McClain Football Field beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch will be available, along with lots of fun activities. See you at the games!
Sincerely,
The Highland County Special Olympics Committee
"Let Me Win, But If I Cannot Win, Let Me Be Brave In The Attempt."
