    The Hillsboro Public Library has a display this month of hand-carved santas. There is a variety of different Santas. Stop by and take a peek; you may even find a Christmas book to check out.
  • HDH recognizes volunteer for 4,000 hours of service
    “Caring. Close to Home” is a fitting tagline for Highland District Hospital. It seems just as fitting for a 9 year volunteer who just chalked up 4,000 volunteer hours. Jane Conley is a volunteer who has been committed to the mission of caring through her service to HDH as a volunteer.

    Want to learn healthy ways to fix your favorite holiday snacks?  Then attend the next "Feeling Your Best" Support Group at Adena Medical Center on Thursday, Dec. 10 from 3:30-4:30 pm, where "Healthy Holiday Snacks" will be the featured topic.
  • Enjoy the holidays without overeating
    The hectic pace of the holidays keeps us busy, leaving little time for us to concentrate on exercise or healthy eating.  A decrease in physical activity, combined with the temptation of all those holiday goodies and foods can lead to an unwanted holiday bonus of weight gain.
  • Three students presented with Good Citizen Awards
    On Saturday, Dec. 5, the Waw-wil-a-way chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented three local students with Good Citizen Awards for their essays. Erin Mizer of McClain High School, Abigail Current of Fairfield High School, and Ethan Hawkins of Whiteoak High School were presented with certificates and cash awards for their winning essays.
  • Farmers Club meets Dec. 7
    Thanksgiving weekend means that the holiday season is literally in full swing. Hopefully, you were able to spend Thanksgiving Day with family and friends. The Christmas shopping season is now under way. Many people enjoy the crowds and thrill of “Black Friday” as it is the “official” kickoff to the shopping season. I, for one, do not include myself in that group.

  • 21st Luminaria Night to Be Held Dec. 13
    Leesburg, December 13, 2009 will be Luminaria Night in the Village of Leesburg.  Lighting of the traditional Luminaria candles will begin at 5 p.m. Village shops and Businesses plan "Open House" 5:30 to 7 p.m., closing in time for villagers to attend the Combined Church Service at the Leesburg Church of Christ at 7:30 PM. The six graders at Fairfield Middle School have been writing essays to be judged by the Fairfield High School English classes.  The winners of the essay contest will be crowned King and Queen at the Leesburg Library at 5:45 p.m.  Santa is schedule to make a visit to the Leesburg Post Office during downtown open houses.   The Fairfield High School Choir will sing at the church service sponsored by the Fairfield Ministerial Association.
  • Garden Club celebrates Christmas
    The Hillsboro Garden Club met on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Ponderosa for their annual celebration of the Christmas holidays.  Larry and Judy Moore hosted the gala evening and were delighted to welcome 22 revelers.  A holiday punch and Carol Gorby's famous Frosted Cranberries were served as members and guests arrived.

         In preparation for the holiday parade, a clean-up day was held in the Village of Mowrystown on Saturday, Nov. 28.
